Fall NDRA Conference in Fargo.
The 2015-16 YWP project theme was “Writing Gives YOU a Voice’ and the winners were recognized at the NDRA fall conference breakfast in Fargo on October 1, 2016.
The project for grades K-1 was to design a campaign button for a past president and state why they thought the president was a good person for the job. The winner of this category was Kaydee Nelson from Bel Air School and her teacher was Kelly Vigness.
Grade 2-3 were busy making a super sized trading card for a past president which included some interesting facts about that president. Averie Wax from Jefferson Elementary was the chosen to be the winner and Amanda Sajdak was her teacher.
Trivia fun was the project selected for grades 4-5. Students in this category researched past presidents and designed four trivia cards using a question and answer format to provide the information to the reader. Abigail Lovelace from Washington Elementary is this category winner and her teacher was Stephanie Newland.
Marisa Burian, a 6th grader at Discovery Middle School was the winner of the 6-8 category. Her teacher was Kristin Jost. This group of students was required to write about something they would work to change if they were to become President of the United States.
Each winner received a medal, a framed certificate and a signed book from one of the featured authors at the conference.
